Different mixers will offer all manner of extra functionality, like the ability to add effects or equalization, or different ways to connect to your devices, but fundamentally a mixer’s job is to… well, mix. (Image credit: Future) What is a podcast mixer?Īll audio mixers, regardless of their size, serve one fairly simple purpose taking audio from multiple input sources and mixing it together to form one unified output. But as a reliable, fully-featured unit with room to cope with mid-to-large-scale podcast recordings, it’s a highly attractive package. At the time of writing, the DLZ Creator was not far off seven hundred notes, which is serious money in anyone’s books. This is cool because not everyone starts a podcast knowing how audio interfaces and mixers work, so by holding the hands of less technically proficient users, the Mackie could be the perfect studio solution for everyone. We also liked how there was a start-up wizard, which guides new users through the initial set-up process. The DLZ Creator has plenty of mic inputs, along with other connectivity options like Bluetooth for airing phone interviews and the like. With the Mackie DLZ creator, there exists potentially all the studio you could ever feasibly need in one, beautifully designed hardware box. As long as the Rode NT-USB Mini is approached with the right expectations, it’s a worthwhile purchase. If you’re the host/founder of a pod looking to take the next step up, you’ll likely have been eyeing up your options for an enhanced studio set-up. With its compact size, affordability and audio quality, we can’t complain too much about the package overall. Shows will sound much more professional than they will if you resort to the internal mics on phones or laptops, and the Rode Connect software, while basic, has enough functionality to get a podcast off the ground. But again, it costs a fraction of the price.įor those taking their first steps into podcasting or streaming, the NT-USB Mini can be a great starting point. It won’t have that studio-like quality you’d expect from more expensive microphones running through an audio interface. That said, be aware of the NT-USB Mini’s flaws before you buy. There aren’t many other units on the market that can offer its level of quality for less than $100. Rode NT-USB Mini review: VerdictĮven with some complaints, the Rode NT-USB Mini is a good microphone for the price. There were times when certain phrases would still crack. The NT-USB Mini also has an internal pop filter which did a good job of reducing any popping sounds, though it wasn't perfect. But that does raise the question: why was the mic relaying sounds to me that wouldn’t end up in the recording? Luckily, I had a producer on hand who could act as a second pair of ears, but many podcasters don’t have that privilege. The monitoring picked up so much minute surrounding audio I was scared that a door opening down the hallway was also being recorded. Unfortunately, the built-in headphone monitoring jack did not do a great job in letting me know how my voice sounded while recording. I recorded my show in a sound-insulated attic, but even then, the Rode gave my voice a somewhat hollow sound, as if speaking in a in a claustrophobic sound booth. Because the NT-USB Mini is trying to be a condenser mic for spoken word, singing and music recording all at once, the base recording sound profile Rode has implemented tries to serve too many masters. Adjusting it inside software didn’t do much, and unfortunately there isn’t a gain dial on the microphone itself: a missed opportunity on Rode's part. While good, my producer would complain about the high gain that the NT-USB Mini gave my voice. There’s also the Rode Connect podcasting and streaming program that can be downloaded for increased functionality. Windows immediately recognized the device and let me start recording. All it required was plugging in the USB Type-C cable into my Microsoft Surface Pro 5. It definitely beats the built-in mic found on a pair of headphones or an iPhone.Īs a podcaster, I took the NT-USB Mini with me on an extended trip. It can’t compare to the larger studio microphones that run through an audio interface, but for what it is, the resulting audio is acceptable. The NT-USB Mini records decently for the most part.

I run my Plex server in a Headless configuration using a Raspberry Pi. If the cheeky notes sprinkled throughout the app are anything to go by, the Plex team has treated this project as a labor of love, and that love is further proven by their willingness to bring Plexamp to the Raspberry Pi in a headless configuration. It’s just a very well-designed and well-built piece of software (not perfect, but pretty close).

I’m also partial to Cal Tjader’s 1960 jazz stylings on West Side Story, that feline, rabble-rousing refrain in the Prologue/Jet Song lends itself wonderfully to noodly jazz interpretation. Something’s Coming by Oscar Peterson, from his 1962 jazz reworking of the West Side Story score, somehow bringing languidness and fleet-footed urgency to an already urgent song. Also, I’ve included the parsley in the ingredients even though I forgot to buy it for myself. Serves four, though in making this for myself I only scale down the pasta, leave the marinade quantities as is, and maybe knock 100g off the mushrooms. If serving this in a way where visuals are a priority, save some almonds and parsley for scattering over each plate of pasta. While the pasta is cooking, toast the almonds in a dry pan till just golden and fragrant, then set aside.ģ: Drain the pasta, stir into the mushrooms (or stir the mushrooms into it, whichever is more practical) along with the parsley and almonds. Crush or very finely chop the garlic clove and add it to the mushrooms.Ģ: Bring a large pan of water to the boil, salt abundantly, and cook the pasta in it till tender, which should take ten to twelve minutes. 500g spaghetti, linguine, or other long pastaġ: Wipe the mushrooms if they need it, thinly slice them, and place them in a bowl with the 80ml olive oil, the zest and juice of the lemon, the salt, and the thyme leaves.2 teaspoons sea salt, or one teaspoon table salt (plus more for the pasta water).250g button mushrooms (or chestnut mushrooms, if you can find them).Recipe from Nigella Lawson’s book Nigella Express. My only change is replacing the parmesan with toasted nuts, but you do what you like. One of my favourite Nigella recipes, it’s simple and stunning and you may just want a bowl of the mushrooms on their own, they’re that good. Pasta with Lemon, Thyme and Garlic Mushrooms I did my best for these photos with the toasted almonds and as many thyme leaves as I could rip from each stem, but fortunately - and importantly - it’s delicious either way, and once you taste the marinated mushrooms all thoughts of how it all looks will disappear from your head. Just don’t forget the parsley, as I did, if you’re serving this to people - not to be overly wedded to aesthetics but when it comes down to it, wet raw button mushrooms are kind of ugly, and benefit from a distracting flounce of green. Button mushrooms aren’t the coolest of the funghi brotherhood but this lemon-and-oil process turns them elegant, chic, something you’ll long for again and again, in fact. In fact the mushrooms taste so amazing that when I make this for myself I barely scale them down to dress 100g of pasta, and nor should you. ♬ Our Day Will Come – Remastered – Nancy Wilson recipe at hungryandfrozen dot com #pasta #mushrooms #food #vegan #nigella #foodblogger. While the pasta cooks, the mushrooms absorb every good thing from those ingredients, their texture relaxing from squeaky to silky and ready to go - as per the ‘express’ of the cookbook title - before you can say al dente, the culinary equivalent of one of those astonishing Broadway quick-changes where a character is whisked out of one costume and into another in a matter of moments, appearing cool and unruffled to perform their next with lemon, garlic and thyme mushrooms from Nigella Express You thinly slice the mushrooms, then steep them in olive oil, lemon, garlic, thyme and plenty of salt. The success of this recipe hinges on how you feel about raw mushrooms (assuming that’s a stance you can immediately call to mind a lengthy opinion on) but these aren’t merely raw, in case you’re already backing away slowly. This pasta with lemon, garlic and thyme mushrooms was the first recipe I made from Nigella Express back in January 2008 and I don’t know (or at least, can’t remember) what portent it held but I loved it then and I’ve been enthusiastic about it ever since, and what better fortune can you hope for than having a good pasta recipe in your life? Despite all this zeal I’ve never properly blogged about this pasta, outside of mentioning it briefly back in ’08, so here we finally are, slightly adapted for my current-day dairy-avoiding vibes. The first recipe you make from a new cookbook comes heavy with a certain ceremonial reverence something about it suggests divining your own fortune, the shape of things to come, starting as you mean to go on, et cetera, or at least, that’s the needlessly strenuous way I approach things. If there is still water on the floor, you may need to add more caulking around the shower door to remove any leaks. He emailed me instructions on making the proper adjustment to the door. They also said that there is an adjustment to the door and some may not have been installed correctly by the RV company. Afterward, assess the condition of the floor. I called SEA (mfg of the shower enclosure and they are sending me 2 new door sweeps. Test the new door sweep by taking a shower (or running it against the door). If the door sweep is designed to fit in the track, the edge of the sweep should be coated lightly with petroleum jelly. Doing this will ensure that the sweep is. One final note, if you had to unscrew the sweep at the beginning, make sure to screw the sweep back in. If there is any excess, use your scissors to cut off the extra sweep. Be sure that the track is flush at each end. It is now time to install the new door sweep in the track. Now take your new sweep and slide it into the track. Using the old door sweep as a pattern, cut the new door sweep to the same length as the old one. There is a slight variation in size for various kinds of door sweeps, so taking the old one with you is the best way to avoid a wasted trip and unnecessary returns. This will help ensure that you get a new one that matches the size and height of the existing sweep. Take the old door sweep with you to your local hardware store or home improvement center. Depending on the type of door sweep that is currently in use, it may be necessary to unscrew the door sweep from the track. Step 2Ĭarefully grasp the edge of the door sweep, pulling it towards the outside of the door until the strip has come loose from the track. Open the shower door from the inside and leave it propped open. While WebP is incredibly exciting, it is equally critical to note browser support. The library is available as a tarball or in the new folder. The libwebp library is the WebP spec’s reference implementation. Lossless WebP endorses alpha channel (transparency) and has a file size that is three times smaller than a similar PNG image.Ī WebP file contains VP8 or VP8L image data and a RIFF container. As a result, lossless photos are 26% smaller than even an image in PNG format. If it cannot find a match, it can fall back on a local palette. WebP robust images recreate new pixels from previously observed image fragments. As a result, compressed images are up to 34% smaller than a comparable JPEG image. This decreases file sizes by looking at pixel values to predict values and then encoding only the variations. WebP lossy images are encoded using predictive coding. It supports lossless and lossy compression, allowing web designers to display richer images in smaller file sizes. WebP is a raster image format developed by Google that is optimized for the web. Finally, we will go over how WebP WordPress is essential and how it helps your site browsing. In this post, we’ll delve deeper into the question of “what is WebP?” and provide additional information on the format. WebP is a Google-developed web image format that can deliver smaller image file sizes while maintaining the same quality as existing image formats. So we try to find the fastest WordPress hosting or the most compressed image format that can help our websites loading faster. Today the most important thing in the process of making a WordPress website is speed. If you already know what WebP is and are eager to get started, we’ll walk you through the process step by step. Do you want to use WebP photos in WordPress? Or are you unsure what WebP images are and why you should care about them first?īoth of those issues will be addressed in this piece. (Although I must say, there will always be a special place in my heart for ginger tabbies!) Speaking of which, did you know there are different classifications for tabbies? Not all have solid stripes, actually, and some have stripes which are darker/bolder than others. Really, I don’t discriminate, I just love them all despite their markings, fur length or coat color. But, their intelligent, affectionate, and independent personalities will be a great match for some.I love cats that come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Because of this variety of coloration, you might have to search for a while to find one with the paler yellow tabby cat coat. Just like tabbies, they can come in a spectrum of red shades. Norwegian Forest Cats come in a huge variety of colors, which you can read more about here. This is a large cat breed that often looks bigger thanks to its wonderful fluffy coat. Amber Norwegian Forest CatĪnother way to find the yellow tabby cat pattern is through the Norwegian Forest Cat breed. So, to get that warmer, yellow tone tabby cat, the dilute modifier needs to be present. Without a dilute modifier, you will have a cream tabby cat. Just like the non-dilute tabby we looked at above, apricot tabbies can display different tabby patterns. Dilute genes turn orange tabbies into cream tabbies, and dilute modifier genes turn a cream tabby into a warmer toned, apricot tabby. Apricot TabbyĪpricot tabbies are orange tabbies with a special combination of dilute and dilute modifier genes – known as double dilution. So, if your heart is set on a very pale yellow tabby cat, you might prefer to look at the dilute tabby. Plus, your kitten’s coat color may change a little as it gets older. There will be some natural variation, even among kittens from the same litter. Some will be darker, and more similar to their orange and red counterparts. Not all yellow tabby cat coats will be the exact same shade. You just might need to move away from show-breeders in order to find a yellow tabby kitten. But, yellow tabby cats are still possible. So, some breeders will selectively breed for this dark coat. So, yellow tabby cats are technically just very pale orange or red tabbies.Ī dark red coat is most popular for pedigree, show cats. The red color in cats is controlled by the pigment phaeomelanin. In fact, red tabbies range from pale yellow shades to the pedigree red. Red Tabbyĭespite the name, red tabbies don’t just come in a deep red tone. So, if the yellow tabby cat you have is actually an amber Norwegian Forest cat, it may be a little different to your standard recognized tabby personality. In fact, one study showed that the orange tabby cat is often seen as the friendliest type of cat, just from its appearance.īut remember, temperament can vary depending on breed, rather than being linked to color. They are known to be social, outgoing, and friendly. Tabby cats are famously great for families. The tabby markings can be classic, mackerel, or spotted. Patched tabbies, also known as torbies, are tortoiseshell-patterned cats, with tabby markings inside some of their patches. This pattern is also sometimes called ‘agouti’. Each individual hair has bands of light and dark coloration. They may have some tabby banding around their legs, neck and tail.īut you will find their main pattern on the individual hairs of this tabby’s coat. Ticked tabbies don’t have big bands of pattern like the spotted and mackerel variations. These spots are laid out in bands, just like the bands of stripes you’ll see in the mackerel pattern. Like the name suggests, this variation will have dark spots over a lighter background. The third type of tabby pattern you may have heard of is ‘spotted’. This type of tabby pattern can look a little like the skeleton of a mackerel fish – which could be the inspiration behind the name. Mackerel tabbies will have more of a striped pattern, unlike the circular ‘classic’ pattern. In fact, some people consider this to be the ‘original’ tabby pattern. The mackerel tabby is the most common tabby pattern. It can look like a marbled pattern on your tabby’s coat. This coat variation has a swirling, circular pattern. The classic tabby pattern is also sometimes known as the blotched tabby. You could find any of these on a yellow tabby cat. In fact, even within the tabby pattern there are five recognized variations. This means that tabby cats can come in a wide variety of general appearances, and have very different personalities from one another. Tabby is just a type of coat pattern that can actually occur on a number of different breeds. It might surprise you to learn that ‘tabby’ is not a specific breed of cat. How would you like that time and money back? In the United States, the average person spends 2.5 days per year looking for lost items, “collectively costing households $2.7 billion annually in replacement costs” ( source). It’s easier to do the things you want to do. For example, if you have a minimalist kitchen, it’s easier to cook dinner because you can find what you need, you’re not shuffling piles in the middle of food prep, etc.A minimalist house is a clean house. Of course, this isn’t to say that my home is never messy! But when you have less stuff, it’s so much easier to clean (here is an example of my minimalist cleaning routine as proof!).Simplifying can be hard work at first, but knowing your “why” will help you stay motivated. And finally … regularly audit your homeīefore we dive in, I think it might be helpful to recap some of the key benefits of creating a minimalist home.Create a system for managing paper clutter Consider how much you want to clean and maintain How Can I Make My Home More Minimalist?.Here are some tips that will help you get started. There are no rules you must follow, but in a minimalist home, there is space to breathe and room to love. In the words of Peter Walsh, the author and professional organiser: “Your home should be the antidote to stress, not the cause.” I take this to heart. The colour palette, furniture, and style still represent you, but in a way that’s just enough. Instead, I invite you to consider a different definition of a minimalist home: a space that feels just right for you and your family. Embracing simplicity in your home doe sn’t mean you have to forgo bright colours, abandon your style, or give up all your favourite things. The living spaces I saw were beautiful-sleek, modern and bare-but I feel called to point out that the minimalist design aesthetic is not the same as the minimalist lifestyle. The results? A flood of images with white walls, hardwood floors, and chic “scandi” style furniture. While minimalist design can be applied to every room in the house-from the kitchen to the bathroom, or nursery-one of the easiest places to start is the living room, that collective gathering place whose purpose is to connect with friends and family, to relax and recharge, and that requires only a handful of key elements to become a functional and beautiful space that leaves room for all kinds of living.Ĭheck out these stylish modern living rooms that approach minimalism in varying ways and degrees, from stark black-and-white interiors to pared down rooms that use color and decor in bold and concentrated ways, to inspire you to design a minimalist living room focused on what is most essential to you. While researching this blog post, I typed minimalist home into Google just to see what would show up. Creating an unencumbered room that focuses on space, light, materials, shapes, and creating an effortless flow that makes it natural and instinctive to use is one way to quiet the noise of the outside world and build an oasis of calm and order over the things you can control. Having fewer possessions is easier on the wallet, kinder to the planet, and makes everyday life simpler and less overwhelming. When it comes to home decor, while there is nothing wrong with conscious maximalism, a minimalist approach that focuses on a less-is-more aesthetic where everything has a purpose and rooms are focused on the essentials, is popular for reasons both big and small. Minimalism might be a trend made popular by the modern day battle against consumerist clutter, but it is rooted in the long and influential history of minimalist design in architecture, interiors, art, graphics, fashion, and virtually every other facet of design.
